Recording music now for already over five years, the young trailblazer that is Melbourne’s Juñor has already achieved a lot. Touring both nationally as an artist in his own right as well as DJing for Ivan Ooze for many years has led Junor to develop not only his own stage show and skills behind the decks, but also a wealth of contacts. The latter has led to him and his team launching in 2016 AUD’$ – the home platform for all things New Wave music and culture in Australia and even earning a Triple J takeover through his platform.
Juñor himself draws on International influences including Kid Cudi, Young Thug, Akon, T-Pain, Flatbush Zombies, JMSN and DJ Shadow in the creative process in producing his own music, which spans well beyond traditional definitions of hip-hop and pushes in new, interesting and different sonic spaces. He has played alongside the likes of T-Pain, Bliss n Eso, Seth Sentry, Horrorshow, Brother Ali, Tuka, Jakubi, Lyall Moloney Watsky, Allday and Remi as well as Beyond The Valley and the most recent Sprung Festival – & DJing on the most recent Wu-Tang Clan Oz tour.
Since bursting on to the national scene in 2015 with a debut project that reached Top 10 on the iTunes charts, Juñor has quickly solidified his position as a pioneer of the global generation of Australian hip-hop. Possessing a resume longer than his iconic dreadlocks, Juñor is regarded as one of the hardest working all-rounders in the country – actively operating as a rapper, DJ, producer, engineer, songwriter, media identity and host through AUD’$ and label executive through R.E.A.L Music (now distributed by Warner Music Australia).
Having worked timelessly both behind the scenes as well as front and centre for many years, Juñor’s AUD’$ / R.E.A.L Music platforms have established themselves as some of the most influential in Australia amongst emerging platforms along with WVS, Off The Clef and Thank Guard. Juñor continues to hold down numerous DJ residencies throughout Melbourne, proving to be one of the most sort after young selectors in the game – curating playlists and introducing the finest new wave tastes from Australia and abroad simultaneously.
Forever on the up, 2017 was arguably his breakthrough year as an artist in his own right, linking up with 2017 Grammy Award Winning Chicago producer Nate Fox (Chance The Rapper) on the wavy new single ‘Top Flight’ featuring L.A rapper Mann. Top Flight was named in “Best Of The Week” by Apple Music upon release & Playlisted in Spotify‘s “New Music Friday’s” as well as getting spins on Triple J, FBi Radio and Triple J Unearthed. The single also spawned a 5-Track remix EP led by Papertoy’s solid remix.
The future seems bright for the rising star of Sri Lankan origins whose own mixing credits now include a Netflix original soundtrack placement. While 2018 began with his boy Ivan Ooze signing a record deal, selling out his own shows alongside Canberra-based Genesis Owusu and gaining a placement in the APRA/AMCOS Songhubs program which has ignited a fresh new wave of writing, evident by a range of feature verses that dropped recently.
Stay tuned for a long-awaited EP from Juñor due for release later this year, the return of the AUD’$ radio show and much much more.
